Bournemouth Chez Fred, Poole Road, Westbourne

Ranked best chippie in Bournemouth on Trip Advisor (and fifth best restaurant overall out of the town’s 585 restaurants)

This extremely popular fish and chip shop has been top of the tree for the past few years.

Jools Holland once told us he always pops into Chez Fred when he’s in the area and in 2013, Hollywood actor Jack Black trekked for one hour and 40 minutes to sample their delights after being told to visit. He went on to describe it as “the best fish and chips in the world”, telling audiences at the Boscombe 02 later that day that it ‘blew his mind’.

74 per cent of customers described it as ‘excellent’ and with one reviewer calling it “the best fish and chips in Bournemouth, without a doubt”

In 2015, it underwent a major refurbishment with the restaurant now offering fifty per cent more seating and a larger takeaway - and the queues are still out the door.

Alfie Fish and Chips, Wimborne Road, Bournemouth

Ranked second best chippie in Bournemouth on TripAdvisor (and 27th best restaurant overall in town out of 585)

A new addition to our annual fish and chip shop round-up, a whopping 85% of customers rated it as ‘excellent’ thanks to its ‘friendly staff, fresh food and great value’.

The shop, which opened in July 2014, claims on its website to serve “the finest fish in all of Dorset”.

And the folks on TripAdvisor clearly agree with one calling it “ the best fish and chips in the county and beyond.”

With another praising the “light and tasty batter”.

Fishtales Fish and Chip Shop, Christchurch Road, Boscombe

Ranked eighth best place for fish and chips in Bournemouth on Trip Advisor (and 152nd best restaurant overall out of 585)

Meaty fish, crispy batter and good value for money has helped keep this fish and chippie firmly among the favourites on TripAdvisor.

One reviewer said: "This must be one of the best fish and chip shops in Bournemouth. Every meal is cooked to order. You never get warmed up fish or chips from the previous day or lunchtime.

"The batter is crisp and golden and never greasy. The chips are always cooked just right too. I've never been disappointed by any of their food."

Takeaways in Poole

Lakeside Fish and Chips restaurant and takeaway

Ranked best fish and chip shop in Poole on Trip Advisor (and 12th best restaurant overall out of 274 in Poole)

Still top of the table. This fish and chip restaurant and takeaway at Lifeboat Quay was one of the most reviewed places on the list with 1,198 reviews in total.

One diner said: “Haddock was exceptional, chips perfect. Perfectly cooked and hot! Service was quick considering how busy they were.”

While another gave the gluten free offerings the thumbs-up, commenting: “Chips tasty and gluten free batter was scrummy”

Nick The Fish, Penn Hill Avenue

Ranked second best in Poole on Trip Advisor (and seventh best restaurant overall out of 274 in Poole)

“Our mission is to serve the best fish and chips you have ever tasted”.

Nick The Fish certainly set their standards high but with an overwhelming 95% of people rating the takeaway as ‘excellent’ they are certainly ticking all the boxes.

One posted on the TripAdvisor page: "Boy were we blown away; cod snow white, succulent and super fresh. Batter bow away light, crispy and no oiliness at all. Chips, crispy and actually real-life golden.

"This has raised the takeaway bar to stratospheric levels and all prepared in an immaculate premises.”

Creekmoor Plaice, Benmoor Road

Ranked third best takeaway in Poole on Trip Advisor (and 64th best restaurant overall in Poole out of 274)

The ‘great service, friendly staff and large portions’ have helped this place earn high praise indeed.

One happy customer said: “A bit of a bold statement but I can honestly say this place consistently supplies the best fish and chips I have ever tasted.

"Very generous portions of very fresh fish with crispy batter and masses of freshly cooked chips - one reg portion easily enough for 2/3 people.

"Thursday's £4 pensioners special portion is bigger than most other regular portions from other outlets.”

Takeaways in Christchurch

Please note: The Noisy Lobster comes out top for fish and chips in Christchurch but as it's a restaurant and not a chippie, we've gone straight in at number two...

Brown’s Fish and Chips, Somerford Road

Ranked second best for fish and chips in Christchurch - but is number one chippie (and fifth best restaurant overall in Christchurch out of 112 restaurants)

Large portions, fast service and value for money. Brown's is a definite hit with many praising its gluten free offerings. They even use wheat free batter for those with a wheat intolerance and come recommended by the Coeliac Society.

One reviewer said: "It does a lovely range of fish options and, if you're willing to give them a heads-up, they are more than willing to cook you whatever fish or seafood you'd like. You can pick from several batter options - panko, crumbed, battered etc and it's all very good value."

Alexander’s Fish and Chips, Stanpit, Mudeford

Ranked third best fish and chips in Christchurch (and 17th best restaurant overall in Christchurch out of 112)

Warning: be prepared to queue up for this very popular takeaway. You may face a wait, but by all accounts, it’s worth it.

One reviewer said: "Crispy fish and beautiful chips and excellent menu choices if you don't fancy fish . A gem of a chippy. If you're in Dorset then seek it out and make sure you're hungry."

Swanage

The Fish Plaice, The Square

Ranked best chippie in Swanage (and third best restaurant overall in Swanage out of 58)

With "delicious" homemade fishcakes, "excellent" fish and chips and "fast service", it's no wonder this chippy came out on top.

It's developed a reputation as one of the main places to get fish and chips when you’ve got a craving after a day at the seaside.

One reviewer said: "Excellent fish and chips right on the seafront. Tasted fresh, batter was golden and crispy and chips were great. Very busy which is always a good sign. No gluten free option though which was a shame (although nowhere in Swanage seemed to offer this)."

Ferndown

Karsberg's Fish & Chips ltd, Turbary Road

Ranked best chippie in Ferndown (and second best restaurant overall in Ferndown out of 48 establishments)

Karsberg's hit the headlines in the Echo last year when it opened Dorset's first ever drive-through fish and chip shop (which is belived to be only the second in the country)

However, the drive-through service isn't the only thing customers love - with the food deservedly taking centre stage.

One reviewer said: " The staff are attentive, quick, clean, polite and always have a smile on arrival.

"It's easy to see why customers come back again and again. If you want good high quality food brace yourself for a very pleasant surprise. You will not be disappointed."
