She is known for being outrageously witty, smart and accessible, and now Ruby Wax can add scientific problem solving to her CV.

The American-born comedian, who moved to Britain in 1977, will be exploring solutions to modern problems with an audience at Lighthouse, Poole on Tuesday, when she takes to the stage with her Frazzled tour.

Based on the Sunday Times number one bestseller, A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled, Wax aims to give a tour of the mind - how to use it, not lose it - in the show billed as 'the ultimate guide to saner living'.

This is Wax's biggest tour to date, following the sell-out success of her one-woman show Sane New World, and also includes a month-long run at London's Leicester Square Theatre, for those who missed out on tickets for the sold-out Poole show.

"I've been working on the return of my show, Frazzled, following the publication of my book, A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled, in paperback," says the much-loved comedian, author and campaigner.

"I'll present a fantastically entertaining show that will remain conversational, as well as being funny and insightful. This is your passport to saner living.

"I might not be sane myself, but I do a pretty good imitation," she jokes.

Wax began her acting career with the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company and went onto write and perform in her own hugely popular television programme, before becoming script editor on all series of Absolutely Fabulous.

She also has several incredibly successful books and TV shows under her belt, as well as a Master's degree in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy from Oxford University.

So Wax certainly knows what she is talking about.

She has, in fact, campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness about mental health issues, including speaking at Downing Street to raise money for neuroscience research.

"We are not equipped for this century, it’s too hard, too fast, and too full of fear; we just don’t have the bandwidth," she says.

"Our brains can’t take so much information in a world where we’re bombarded by bad news and force-fed information. I can just about take in the weather then I’m exhausted."

Wax says she obtained her degree to increase her understanding of the brain and it was this knowledge that she used as the basis for her books, Sane New World: Taming the Mind - which helps us understand why we sabotage our sanity with our own thinking - and A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled.

She has also been awarded an OBE for her service to mental health in the Honorary British Awards to Foreign Nationals in 2015, and has become a leading speaker on mental issues including appearances at the Home Office, MI5, Apple, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, the House of Lords, Google and various other UK National Health Trusts and charities.

The paperback edition of Ruby’s Sunday Times bestselling book, A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled, is published by Penguin Life, available now.
