THERE’S plenty to keep even the youngest member of the family entertained in the new spring season at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts.

The Mini BSO perform two family concerts this spring – on February 11,The Thrill of the Orchestra is a celebration of music that includes arrangements from a variety of orchestral repertoire, while on April 29 you are welcomed to the Animal Zoo with a musical menagerie for all the family to enjoy.

During half term you can jump aboard with the stars of Cbeebies’ Spotbots and Justin’s House as they set sail on a swashbuckling adventure on the high seas in Treasure Island on February 15.

You can also catch Burglar Bill, inspired by Janet and Allan Ahlberg’s beautiful picture book on February 16. The fun characters are brought to life with an exciting set design, puppets, original music and songs.

Come and test your knowledge of dinosaurs against Ben Garrod, the TV scientist in Attenborough and the Giant Dinosaur in So You Think You Know About Dinosaurs? on 3 March. With film footage from Planet Dinosaur and photos of his own palaeontological dinosaur digs, this is an interactive show where children can ask questions and show off their dinosaur knowledge to the audience.

Oskar’s Amazing Adventure on 4 March is an original, heartwarming play for young children and their families, full of good humour, adventure, music and song, featuring fun-loving puppy Oskar in his search for new animal friends.

Lyngo Theatre (the creators of Snow Play) return to Lighthouse during the Easter Holidays with two wonderful productions for young people. There and Back Again: An Odyssey is a new show for older children on 11 April which takes a look at the myths and legends of Homer’s Odyssey. On 12 April Lingo perform Egg and Spoon, an interactive romp through the four seasons, celebrating the wonders of nature – a perfect, gentle introduction to the magic of theatre for children aged 5 and under.

Bursting the boundaries of the traditional string quartet, Graffiti Classics line up on 13 April with 16 strings, 8 dancing feet and 4 voices with 1 aim – to make classical music funny and exhilarating for everyone, young and old.

Rounding off the action-packed season for families at Lighthouse comes Gangsta Granny from 24 – 28 May. From the acclaimed producers of Horrible Histories comes the world premiere of this amazing story by David Walliams, the UK’s best-selling author for children.
