Pokemon Go, the mobile game that's put billions on the value of makers Nintendo and led to hordes of people standing around in playgrounds, is now officially available in the UK.

For the uninitiated, you download the app, which then encourages you to walk the streets of your town in search of wild Pokemon.

Walk near one, and the app uses your camera to overlay a virtual reality creature onto your real life surroundings.

You then throw a virtual ball at it to catch it, whereupon it is added to your collection.

Also overlaid on the real world are pokestops, where you can collect extra pokeballs, and gyms, where you can take your pokemon to train, for later battles with other players.

What this means in practice is there are going to be a lot of people apparently behaving very oddly on the streets.

If you're playing here's what you need to know:

Bournemouth Town Hall is a pokestop, as is the Obscura Cafe, Burlington Arcade, Bournemouth Pier and Daisy O'Briens. In fact there are hundreds clustered around Bournemouth town centre. You can see a full map here.

There's a Facebook group for Bournemouth and Poole players here.

Boscombe Pier appears to be a good spot for the rarer Pokemons. They appear in their 'natural habitat' so by the sea you'll get water pokemon and in the gardens you'll get a different kind.

There's a list of handy tips on how to play from the ever-on-top-of-what-the-young-people-like Buzzfeed here.

And the game will use a LOT of battery power and data, so if you're not on an unlimited plan, you might want to switch off the app's access to mobile data, so you can control when you're playing and when you're not (the app keeps track of your location via GPS while you're not playing, which is very data heavy). And you might want a backup battery.

Poole Neighbourhood policing team have also issued some advice: "Beware of environmental hazards such as traffic, pedestrians and cyclists that you are likely to bump into or fall down/under.

"Do not trespass on private land to cut through or achieve a game task.

"And while you have your phone out, you are advertising valuable personal property that could easily be snatched by thieves.

"Beware of your surroundings, the presence of others and extra vigilant around common resource spots where criminals could be awaiting your arrival."

We like to know what you think, if you're playing - where have you found your best pokemon? which team should new players join? - and if you're not, have you noticed people pointing their phones in odd directions?
