CROWDS lined the streets of Verwood this afternoon for the town's annual carnival.

Marching bands, floats and youngsters in colourful costumes kicked off the carnival with a procession around the town before returning to the main event off Crane Drive.

Visitors were treated to a show from the Solent dog display team as well as a falconry display where members of the public could learn about birds of prey.

Other special guests included the Poole Gun Carriage Display team and a selection of miniature ponies which the children really enjoyed.

There was also the usual funfair rides and food stalls as well as live music and entertainment for all ages.

Adrian Read, chairman of the carnival committee, said: "We were very lucky with the weather. Unfortunately it wasn't the sunniest day of the weekend but we managed to avoid the rain.

"We had some great things on offer this year but it would have been better if more people had shown up."

The money raised from the carnival will go to local charities.
