THE Taste of the West has launched a brand new online shop with Ocado to showcase the South West's best food - but it only features one Dorset brand.

The store is the first regional shop of its kind, a collaboration of food and drink producers across the West Country orchestrated by Taste of the West.

John Sheaves, CEO of Taste of the West said: “I am delighted with this development.

"It has been a long time in the planning and effectively takes Taste of the West onto a new innovative marketing platform.

"The new Ocado account is the first account for our new commercial service, run from our commercial arm, Taste of the West International, and feeds directly into a buoyant online market."

Food and Drink Wales and A Taste of Ireland already have their own shops, and the Taste of the West Country shop features 50 products, rising to 150 in the coming weeks.

The shop includes West Country meat, charcuterie, traditional pasties and craft ales to delicious ice-cream, free range duck and quail eggs and the region’s famous clotted cream.

Taste of the West say the new online shop will allow producers who have until now been restricted to selling locally in speciality shops, delis and farmers markets, to reach customers across the UK.

On the site, they say: "Do you have childhood memories of holidays in the West Country? Have you and your family enjoyed trips to the beautiful beaches and coastlines of Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Cornwall, walks on the wild moors, visiting historic sites from Stonehenge to Glastonbury or picnicking among the rolling green hills of the Cotswolds?

"You probably know these breathtaking landscapes offer a wealth of quality local produce from artisanal cheese to real ales and cider, traditional pasties, quality meat, delicious ice cream and of course the famous clotted cream.

"Our Taste of the West Country Shop is full of some of the best local produce: farmed, fished, grown and produced in the West Country, brought to you in one range."
