Trying to pose for a picture with your furry friend can present a challenge. But there are some ways you can persuade your pet to sit still for the camera.

Amateur photographer Andy Lyons, from Swanage, often takes selfies with his ‘camera assistant’ and black Labrador, Dakota. His tips for taking the perfect pet selfie include good lighting, interesting backgrounds, and some tempting treats.

He said: “Bribery is key – you need treats in the pocket. I’ll then get the camera set up and have a remote trigger in one hand and a treat in the other. I can then get her to look the way I want her to look.

“Dakota comes out with me all the time. We get up early at sunrise and go out later on at sunset - the golden hours - to make the most of the good light."

He added: “I like to incorporate interesting backgrounds or a local landscape into the picture. Earlier this year, there were lots of bluebells around Corfe Common, which provided a great backdrop for a picture.”

Taking a pet selfie takes time and patience, and it's important not to force your pet if they are feeling camera shy. It’s better to position yourself next to your pet rather than trying to get them to fit in the frame with you.

So, if your cat is already sitting, slide in next to them. And if your dog is lying down, get down on the floor with them.

Remember, it doesn't count as a selfie if you didn't take the picture yourself - so please don't send us those, they won't count!

Once you have taken your selfie, send it to petselfies@bournemouthecho.co.uk, post it on instagram and tag us in the picture or the comments (we're @bournemouthecho), message it to us via our Facebook page, tweet it to us @bourmemouthecho or whatsapp 07909007839.
