After turning 40 last year, Casey Jones decided it was time to tackle a new physical challenge in 2015.

Now the self-employed businessman is set to take part in Dorset’s ultimate fitness test after winning a 12-week training package in a Daily Echo competition.

Casey, who lives in Poole, won a body transformation package which included entry to Dorset’s Fit Test on May 30, to find the county’s fittest man and woman.

“It appealed to me because it tests all areas of fitness,” he explains.

“I love keeping fit through boxing and I’ve also taken part in triathlons and adventure races like Lake Fear, so I thought it would be good to push myself and try something new.”

Dorset’s Fit Test is being organised by Alex Chisnall, owner of the Body Clinics at both Littledown Centre and Sandbanks Yacht Company and James Rufus, founder of 180 degrees gym at Sandbanks Yacht Company.

Casey’s prize includes weekly personal training sessions at Sandbanks Yacht Company with 180 Degrees Gym and a bespoke nutrition plan.

“I’m really pleased to have won the competition as it gives me a goal to work towards and I’m looking forward to the training and preparation,” he says.

“I think paddle boarding is going to be the biggest challenge as I’ve never done it before.”

Casey will be competing side by side with some of Dorset’s fittest men and women including world champion power lifters, world-class stand up paddleboard racers, kite surfers, professional footballers and county rugby players in a pure test of ultimate fitness.

Alex Chisnall who also runs Not In The Gym Fitness camps, says with the right training Casey is in with a good chance.

“Casey is definitely a contender based on his past history but there are no short cuts because this is a competition that tests every aspect of fitness from cardiovascular, stamina and endurance to strength, skill, flexibility, power, agility and balance.”

The event will also be an opportunity to raise some vital funds for two very worthy causes.

James Rufus adds: “We are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the RNLI and Help for Heroes in the process of finding the county’s fittest male and female.”

The challenge includes 200m of stand up paddle boarding, 24 box step-ups, 20 pull-ups, 100 squat thrusts, 40 bench presses, 1km uphill run, squats, sit-ups and a 200m row.

So whether you’re a gym junkie, paddle boarder, runner, cyclist, waterports enthusiast or just love sport, now is the chance to find out if you have got what it takes to be Dorset’s fittest.

The inaugural Dorset’s Fit Test will be held in Sandbanks, Dorset on May 30, 2015.
