THERE will be shell suits a plenty as preparations are being made for the 35th Bournemouth Bay Run in April.

An event which raises money for the British Heart Foundation, this year the theme will concentrate on the eighties - in a nod to when it was first launched in 1981.

Organised by Bournemouth Tourism, the event has already funded millions of pounds of research at Southampton University for the BHF.

This year it will take place on April 2.

Race director, Emily Weaver said: “We’ve got a good following of runners who enter the half marathon and the 10km each year and one thing that draws them each time is the stunning view of the beach as they run along.

"This year’s theme is 1980’s – to honour the run starting in 1981 – so we’re hoping everyone is going to dress up in something from the 80’s – could be something as little as neon sweat bands or a shell suit."

BH Live will be running the warm-up with some classic tunes, while Jimmy's Iced Coffee will be cheering on the runners at Boscombe in their 80s gear.

There are four races this year – a half marathon, 10km, 5km Fun Run and the 1km Children’s Fun Run.
