The forecast so far is looking good for the weekend with dry and warm conditions for Saturday and long sunny spells and a high of 21C predicted for Sunday.
The first-ever Wimborne History Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday. There will be battles, weapon and combat displays, crafts, activities, workshops, storytelling, authentic villages, encampments and more at the Lake Gates festival site. With re-enactments, walks, talks and exhibitions taking place in Wimborne town centre. Entry is free for children up to and including 17-years-old when they are accompanied by an adult. Advanced tickets for adults are £12 or £14 at the gate or £10 in advance and £12 on the gate for those 65 and over, students with an NUS/ISIC card and registered disabled.

Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life comes to Bournemouth this weekend. The overnight fundraising festival takes place at Butchers Coppice from 12noon on Saturday until 12noon on Sunday.The event kicks off with a survivor lap, where cancer survivors are honoured by their loved ones and all those who are present, for their courage. A Candle of Hope ceremony takes place later that evening to remember lost loved ones. Teams of between eight and 15 people will take turns to run on a track while the others rest, eat, or sleep in their tents, which are set up close by. Poole Goes Vintage returns to the Quay on Sunday. From 11am to 7pm, there will be vintage music, memorabilia, entertainment and classic cars. Headline act Miss Annie and the Midnight Shift will be performing their 50’s style roots, rhythm and blues from 5.30-7pm. Throughout the day there will be performances from Memphis Belle, The Scarlets and 1940’s songstresses The Land Girls complete with authentic costumes and choreography. There’s also the chance to get into the swing and learn to Lindy Hop with Jitterbug Jive’s fun demonstrations and have-a-go sessions.
The Great Poole Dog Walk is taking place at Upton House and Upton Country Park on Sunday. Registration is from 10am ready for the event to start at 11am with admission costing £5 per dog, with a maximum of four dogs per person, and £1 for additional walkers. Funds raised will go to Waggy Tails Rescue Centre, Lewis-Manning Hospice and Chestnut Nursery. The event will also feature a Where’s Fido competition and a scavenger hunt with guaranteed prizes. Upton and Lytchett Minster Carnival takes place on Saturday. The procession takes place between 1pm and 2pm with fun for all the family on the Recreation Ground between 2pm and 6pm.
A family fun day takes place at Wareham Rugby Club on Sunday. Between 2pm and 6pm, there will be a BBQ, live music, a bouncy castle, stalls, ice cream, a carboot sale, raffle, bar and more. Entry is £2 for adults with kids free with the event taking place in aid of Purbeck Day Centre.
The West Hants Club is hosting free tennis coaching sessions and activities on Saturday and Sunday. There will be coaching taster sessions for children and adults on both days, along with mini tennis for youngsters agred three to 10 at the club on Roslin Road South in support of the Lawn Tennis Association’s Great British Tennis Weekend. Around 50 musicians are set to perform at Highcliffe Castle on Sunday. The Bournemouth and District Concert Band will be performing everything from the Phantom of the Opera to Star Wars and Jurassic Park in the Castle grounds from 2-4pm, weather permitting. Admission is free.
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is holding an open day at Christchurch fire station on Saturday. This event, at the fire station in Fairmile Road, will include a number of displays and demonstrations, alongside stalls, refreshments and music.It takes place between 11am-3pm, with proceeds shared between the Fire Fighters Charity and local charity Amelia's Rainbow.
Holdenhurst village holds its summer fete on Saturday from noon to 4pm. There will be stalls, barbecues, a bouncy castle, children’s activities and music on the green and in the church. The village hall will serve tea.
Thousands of people will take part in the Tolpuddle Martyr’s Festival this weekend. The Tolpuddle Martyrs were six agricultural workers who were exiled to Australia in 1834 after forming a union. Between Friday and Sunday there will be entertainment, stalls, live music, speakers and debates. Acts lined-up include the Comrade X, Skimmity Hitchers, Jess Green And The Mischief Thieves and Robb Johnson. The main highlight is a procession on Sunday from the festival site to Tolpuddle village. Charges apply but Sunday’s rally day is free and open to all.
The RNLI is hosting a Lifeboat Garden Fete at the Red House Museum in Quay Road, Christchurch from 12pm to 3pm on Saturday with stalls, prizes, refreshments, live music and entertainment. Admission free, all proceeds to the RNLI.
A summer festival comes to Fordingbridge on Saturday. There will be classic cars on display, a craft village and demonstrations of bygone trades on the Recreation Ground. There will also be a number of stands and a horticultural marquee.
