Thousands of people will take to the streets of Bournemouth this weekend for the town’s annual pride festival, Bourne Free.

Here’s your guide to the summer spectacular.

When does it take place?

It runs from Friday, July 8 until Sunday, July 10.

What time does it start?

Festivities begin at 5pm on Friday with a surprise opening to wow crowds at The Square.

What’s going on for families?

A free Family fun night in association with Julia’s House children’s hospices takes place at The Triangle from 5pm on Friday.

There will be an open air screening of Rio 2 with free candyfloss, popcorn, a bouncy castle and face painting for children as well as the chance to take place in a free family rainbow tapestry.

There will also be live music from Martin Lea and from tribute acts P?nk and Bowie Solo.

What’s going to be the highlight?

Well, Friday night’s surprise opening in the Square is always worth watching.

Last year there was a giant flashmob with singers performing hits from the musicals including Phantom of the Opera, Grease Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Mamma Mia.

However, Saturday’s parade is always the star attraction with a giant procession through the streets of Bournemouth.

Hundreds of people dress up and march in solidarity with LGBT causes.

When and where is the parade?

It will start from 11am on East Cliff on Saturday before making its way through the town and finishing at The Triangle at 12pm.

Who else is performing?

Artists including DJ Artful Dodger, R&B singer Shola Ama, X Factor star Sam Callaham, 90s singer Angie Brown, DJ Brandon Block and Eurovision star Kelly Wilde will perform at The Triangle Arena on Saturday.

You’ll need a wristband to access the arena.

These cost £10 for a standard wristband or £25 for a VIP wristband, which gives you exclusive access to the VIP tent.

You will ONLY be able to collect your wristband(s) from the main entrance of the Triangle Arena between 6pm to 10:30PM on Friday or from 12noon onwards on Saturday.

You can purchase them from bournefree.co.uk

Is there a theme?

Yes and dressing up is encouraged!

Get your feathers and headdress at the ready as this year’s theme is Rio Carnival.

Previous themes have included the Wild West, Under-the-Sea, Broadway and Royalty.

What else is going on?

There’s entertainment at the bandstand in the Lower Gardens from 12.30pm until 4.30pm before a party at The Triangle until 11pm.

The Metropolitan Community Church will host a special pride service on Sunday in The Triangle from 12pm.

Can anyone join in?

Yes, the event isn’t just about the LGBT community but is a chance for all communities living in Bournemouth to celebrate diversity and harmony.

Do I need a ticket?

The family fun night is completely free, as is the parade through the town.

You will only need to buy tickets for the entertainment in the Triangle Arena on Saturday.
