BUMPER crowds packed out the second annual Poole Harbour Boat Show at the weekend.

Thousands of people flocked to Poole Quay and Poole Quay Boat Haven, to check out a selection of the latest yachts, motor cruisers and a range of other aquatic delights.

The free show, organised by Poole Harbour Commissioners in association with Sunseeker, and backed by the Daily Echo, also included a full schedule of entertainment and water sport activities.

Jim Stewart, chief executive at Poole Harbour Commissioners, said: “We still had several thousands of people here on Saturday, despite the weather, and today (Sunday) the quay has been packed.

“We are delighted and have got great feedback from the stall-holders, and the boat companies as well who were exhibiting.”

Among the highlights were demonstrations from the RNLI and a chance to see the Quadski - the world’s first amphibious sports car, which is capable of reaching speeds of up to 45mph on land and sea.

The BBC even attended on Saturday to shoot a segment to feature in a forthcoming episode of the hit show The Apprentice, although the film crew remained tight-lipped about the exact details.

Meanwhile, families also enjoyed live music on the Sunseeker Sessions stage from bands such as the Sunseeker Renegades, Bonsai Pirates, Harry Hammersmith and the Flyovers, Harpin On, and Quinns Quinney.

Visitor Hayley Jamison, told the Echo: “The weather is pretty dire, but we’re hardy folk. I think its great that were able to walk around the jetty in amongst all these amazing boats and yachts. I’ve often walked along the quay and wanted to take a closer look at what is moored up.”

On Friday the show was opened by rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave.
Sir Steve, a five time Olympic gold medallist, cut the ribbon during a VIP lunch reception.

He then made an appearance at the Westover Group stand as an ambassador for Jaguar Land Rover.

Mr Stewart said: “Last year it was two days, this year it was three. At the end of this event we are going to sit down and have a look if we’ve got the format right.

“It is European Maritime Day, next year, so we’re looking at how we can increase and improve the boat show as well.”
