POWERBOATS will be tearing through the waves at Bournemouth this weekend when the ThunderCat Racing Championships return.

The two-day event will see competitors race heats over an ‘M’ shaped circuit course and then tackle a 50 mile ‘Enduro’ race with laps between Bournemouth and Boscombe Piers.

Racing will start at 12noon on Saturday and Sunday by Bournemouth Pier.

Spectators will be able to watch the racing from a designated area on the beach or from Bournemouth and Boscombe piers.

The event will attract competitors from all over the UK as well as Poland and South Africa.

However, it is Lymington’s own Bligh Julius who will be starting as favourite.

He said: “I won the Championship in 2014 and was runner up last year.

“My Poole based sponsor Multispark Erosion Ltd are willing me to a local win to kick the season off in style”.

The ‘M’ shaped heats will take place between 12pm and 3pm on Saturday, followed by the Enduro at 3.30pm. On Sunday, the heats will take place between 12pm and 2.30pm, with the Enduro at 3pm.
