The Savills Countryside Alliance Point to Point takes place on Sunday at Badbury Rings, near Wimborne and will be hosted by the new chief executive of the Countryside Alliance, Tim Bonner.

The day provides some of the most exciting horse racing of the season and consistently attracts record entries.

Mr Bonner said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of this exciting and important event for the alliance where those of all ages with an interest in the countryside will be welcomed and entertained.”

There will be six races during the day including the Wessex National sponsored by Westover Land Rover, plus many additional activities to entertain the crowds, including a special anniversary tent featuring cookery demonstrations, children’s activities and rural crafts.

A highlight of the event will be an anniversary raffle for prizes including a beautiful copper and tin sculpture of a hound by Jo Burchell, a bronze resin sculpture of an Irish Hunter by Jane Shaw and a Charles Church print of Cattistock Hounds.

Raffle tickets cost £5 each and can be bought either on the day, or in advance from Alison Hawes of the Countryside Alliance, alisonhawes@countryside-alliance.org.

Alison added: “The Countryside Alliance Point to Point at Badbury Rings always attracts the crowds and has become a regular ‘must go to’ attraction in the Wessex Calendar, popular with everyone who loves the countryside.”

Top runners and riders who have previously raced at the event include former Gold Cup and Grand National horse, “What a Friend”, Gold Cup winning jockey, Sam WaleyCohen, and runner up in the 2010 Champion Hurdle, Khyber Kim.

There will be plenty of activities to entertain the crowds all day, with terrier racing, local food stalls, and a large shopping village.

Gates open at 10am and the first event is the terrier racing, while the first horse race will be held at noon and the raffle will be drawn at 2.30pm. Entry costs £25 per car.

A special Patrons Package is available, including race-side parking, use of patrons’ marquee, champagne reception and complimentary food and drinks throughout the day, special viewing stand and race card.

Tickets cost £60 per couple and additional tickets cost £25 per person.
