A New Forest village was a riot of colour as the annual carnival took over for one night.

The Sway Carnival procession on Friday was the centre-piece of ten days' of events that have taken place in the village.

Youngsters from St Lukes Church of England School, Little Flyers Preschool and Robin Nursery School took centre stage in the procession with colourful costumes based on space age and American wild west themes.

From hippies and gangsters to aliens and robots the "Back to the Future" themed procession featured a dazzling variety of different costumes as it made its way through the village from the Jubilee Field.

The Dolphin Marching Band also took part in the parade alongside the local brownies group whose members had made bags out of recycled materials.

Funds raised at the procession and other events that took place over the last ten days will all go to clubs and societies in Sway.

Last week the village held a scarecrow festival, beer and cider festival and a treasure hunt, while there were also quiz nights, children's disco and a back to the future barbecue.

A village fete on the Jubilee Field took place on Saturday and the ten-day extravagnza will be wrapped-up today with a family picnic and service of thanksgiving.
