MORE than 2,000 people flocked to the fourth annual Upton and Lytchett Minster Carnival at the weekend, an event including a colourful procession and a host of live entertainment.

A number of floats gathered at Factory Road on Saturday before the procession moved along Moorland Way, across Sandy Lane and onto the carnival showground at Upton Recreation Ground.

Here revellers enjoyed a host of stalls, refreshments and demonstrations. Live bands also played on stage throughout the afternoon event.

One of the carnival organiser's, Lynn Wright, told the Daily Echo: "We've had well over two thousand people attending, it has been a very, very good day.

"We had over 40 stalls, local charities, a fun fair. We were selling tea and coffee out of the youth club. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and even the weather was perfect."

The carnival was organised by the Beacon Association.

Lynn explained: "Nearly four years ago we received a large lottery grant, over £300,000 to spend in the town over three years on various projects. That finished last year but the Beacon Association was born out of it, and we pledged to carry on some of the things - like the carnival - that we'd started."

Lynn said they're already close to deciding what date the 2016 carnival will take place.

"The turn out on Saturday was bigger than it was last year, we had more stalls, but the procession probably didn't have quite as many floats.

"We didn't have a procession theme, people do what they like - although there were an awful lot of pirates this year for some reason."
