Music festivals, Winton Carnival and a visit from the Red Arrows are just some of the things going on across the area this weekend.

The weather is looking sunny on Saturday with highs of 19C and overcast on Sunday with heavy rain predicted from 4pm.

The cream of the folk scene will be coming to Poole this weekend for Folk on the Quay. The free two-day extravaganza will see more than 25 acts performing across five stages. On Saturday there will be music from Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson from Australia, five-piece folk-pop-indie Bonsai Pirates and BBC Young Folk Awards finalists, Jaywalkers. Then on Sunday, award winning headline act The Roving Crows will be performing. On the Saturday the morris dancing starts at 11am. There’s live music performances from 12.30pm until 9pm on the outdoor stages, with many acts continuing into the evening at pubs and bars along the Quay. On Sunday, morris dancing starts from 11am with live music performances from 12.30pm with the final live act of the evening, Quinns Quinney playing on the Custom House stage 7.15-9pm.

A football tournament will take place to remember family man and keen footballer Shane Stanley on Saturday. The 31-year-old died suddenly from an undetected heart condition in January 2014 at the age of 31. The event, which is being staged from 10am to 6pm at Turlin Moor Recreation Ground, will see 32 six-a-side teams battling it out for The Stanley Cup. There will also be cake stalls, 100ft inflatables for children, a climbing wall, pottery, photo-booth, nail and face painting and a raffle.

Hundreds are expected to line the route for the Winton Carnival Parade on Saturday. The event, celebrating its tenth anniversary, will involve more than 600 people parading from Wimborne Road to Winton Recreation Ground. Attractions include a funfair, stalls and live music and dancing on stage from 14 local musicians in the afternoon and evening, and it will also be the site of the carnival ‘voting machine’, allowing people to choose the best in parade. Tank Fest takes place at Bovington Tank Museum this weekend. Tickets for Saturday are sold out and will not be available at the gate but tickets are still available for the Sunday. Visitors are being strong recommended to buy online in advance to avoid disappointment. Guest tanks running in the arena this year include a 38t, designed and built in former Czechoslovakia, and two Sherman Tanks from the Brad Pitt Fury film set. A World War II Douglas C-47 Dakota from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will complete a flypast on both days. Visit tankmuseum.org for Sunday tickets and information.

The Bournemouth Aviation Museum and Bournemouth Red Arrows Association will be holding a fun day on Saturday at Hurn. There will be an open cockpit of a Vulcan, bouncy castle, tombola, face painting, stalls, and representatives from The Jon Egging Trust. Red Arrows fans are also in for a special treat as the aerobatic team will be based at Bournemouth Airport this weekend. They are expected to jet in at 2.46pm on Sunday on their way back from France. They will leave Bournemouth at 5.18pm for a display at Goodwood and will return at 6.01pm before staying overnight. They will then leave Bournemouth at 12.45pm on Monday.

A guided walk of Upton Heath taking in the regeneration after a fire is taking place on Saturday at 10am. Dorset Wildlife Trust warden Andy Fale will be leading the walk, which is limited to 15 people so booking is essential. Staff and pupils at Lytchett Minster School will be hosting their first ever fun day on Saturday. The event, held at 11am-3pm, includes a human football table, coconut shy, live bands and numerous stalls and displays.

Wildlife enthusiasts are invited to take part in a 24-hour 'bioblitz' in Christchurch. The event will take place from 10am on Saturday until 10am on Sunday at Steamer Point Nature Reserve. Saturday events include guided botany walks, pond dipping, dragonfly identification and a minibeast hunt. The evening will include a bat talk and walk from 8pm and a late night moth trap. Sunday morning begins with a dawn chorus walk at 6am, with early risers treated to a fully organic cliff-top breakfast. The finale will be a review of the overnight sightings from the trail camera and the grand opening of the previous night’s moth and mammal traps. There will be a fun day and dog show at Christchurch Quay from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Sunday, in aid of pets charity the PDSA. Registration for the dog show starts at 1pm, and the show itself starts at 2pm. There will be stalls, children's rides and refreshments.

A summer fayre in aid of Cats Protection's Ferndown rehoming centre will be held on Saturday. From 1.30pm to 4pm there will be a host of items for sale including plants, crafts, tombola, cakes, books and more at the free admission event at West Parley Memorial Hall, on Christchurch Road. An event to mark the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival 2015 is being held on Sunday at Moordown Community Centre. There will be children's land-based dragon boat racing, a Chinese cooking challenge featuring the Mayor of Bournemouth and a kung-fu demonstration from Hollywood film fighter Hayward Ho. There’s also a raffle with prizes including return tickets to Hong Kong, an Apple iPad mini and an overnight stay in a 4-star hotel. Entry is free and it takes place between 1.15pm and 5pm.

The Broadstone Choir will be holding two performances in Poole this weekend. They will be performing David Everett’s Requiem Light Everlasting, Parry’s I Was Glad, Purcell’s Te Deum and Purcell’s Jubilate at St George’s Church in Oakdale on Friday and at Broadstone Methodist Church on Saturday, both to start at 7.30pm. Wessex Chamber Orchestra will also be playing at the event. A charity football match and fun day will be taking place at the Everyone Active Ashdown Leisure Centre on Sunday. A unique dance performance takes place on the top floor of Richmond Gardens multi-storey car park on Friday and Saturday evening. Of Riders is a sunset dance event that will see six female dancers and a live band conjure a new kind of English Folk dance, as the Still House company performs amidst the Bournemouth town centre rooftops. A pop-up vintage and craft fair is being held at the Pamphill village hall in Wimborne on Sunday. It runs from 10am to 4pm and will feature a host of quality crafts, vintage finds and handmade gifts at the free admission event.

An evening with the Verwood Concert Brass ensemble takes place at Wimborne United Reformed Church on Saturday. Doors open at 6.30pm ready for the performance at 7pm at the church in Chapel Lane. The first-ever Out Loud festival takes place in Weymouth this weekend. The free event will see performers take to five stages across the town in aid of charity. Acts include indie-rock band from Spindlefish and rock-funk band Kung Fu Chicken Fighters. Local shanty singers the Dorset Wrecks, WOW and the voice of cool swing himself, Darron Garnett. Vegans and veggies will be heading to Bournemouth Vegan Fair on Sunday at the Pavilion on Westover Road. There will be 70 stalls, free food samples and five vegan caterers. There will also be pampering treats, a talk by world record holder Fiona Oakes and a screening of Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret.
