The weather is looking overcast on Saturday with rain early morning (there's a yellow weather warning in place until 7am) and light rain on Sunday so don't forget your umbrella. 

Get your weekend started with a bat walk at Radipole Lake. Join the RSPB tonight between 8.30pm and 10.30pm and go in search of bats using a bat detector. Costs £4 for members, £6 for non-members, £2 for under 16s and WEX free. Booking essential on 01305 778313.

Women across Dorset will be donning pink on Sunday to support the fight against cancer by taking part in Race For Life along Bournemouth seafront. There are three events to choose from; a 5k at 9am, a 5k at 11.30am and a 10k race starting at 9am. The annual event will see runners raise cash for Cancer Research UK. West Howe carnival and fun day takes place on Sunday between 11.45am and 5.45pm. There will a carnival procession, shows, stalls, a bouncy castle and face painting at Moore Avenue Park. Entry is free and anyone who wants to get involved should visit the Moore Avenue Park Community Group on Facebook.

The streets of Wimborne will be filled with music and dance over the next three days. The Wimborne Minster Folk Festival will see a host of musical acts play numerous venues throughout the town including Pachango, Alex Roberts Druo, Ninebarrow, Pete Christie, Hannah Robinson and 8 sharp. Bearwood School will play host to a special medieval fayre on Saturday marking the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta. The fayre, which will be opened by AFC Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher and the Poole Town Crier, will take place between 12pm and 4pm. There will be a reinactment of the signing of the Magna Carta, a Hog Roast, jousting, falconry, medieval games, a wandering minstrel, dance, storytelling and much more.

On Saturday, there is a free Family Fun Day and Summer Fair at St Christopher’s Church and Centre in Burleigh Road in Southbourne. There will stalls, a raffle, music and refreshments, lunches, cream teas and ice creams from 11.30am to 3.30pm and entry is free.

There is a charity auction in aid of Julia’s House at Bournemouth Vintage Emporium in Christchurch Road on Friday at 7.30pm. The free event is open to all and there will also be live music, a magician and a bar. On sale will be vintage items and curio, as well as items donated by businesses.

The annual Picnic in the Park event takes place at Queen’s Park Golf Course this Sunday. It takes place from 1.30pm and will feature up to 30 stalls run by charities and companies, as well as live music from the Pink Swing Band. For details contact Peter Webber on 07553 316089.

Bournemouth Echo: Butterflies in the Glasshouse

A museum open day for children is being held on Saturday at Bournemouth Natural Science Society in Christchurch Road. Kids will be able to learn about how to make a garden bug friendly and what creatures you can find, from 10am to 12.30pm as part of the society’s Young Explorers events. The Prevail Skate Park in Poole will be holding a charity fun day on Sunday with all proceeds going to Julia's House, the Dorset and Wiltshire Children's Hospices. Entry is free or it is £5 to skate between 12pm and 4pm. There will be prizes on offer, a raffle, games, a bouncy castle and live demo shows. Equipment will be free to hire and beginners are welcome.

Anyone for tennis? On Saturday and Sunday, parks and clubs across Dorset will be opening their doors to members of the public for free as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend. Players will be able to experience Cardio Tennis, Highland Spring Mini Tennis, coaching and much more. Last year more than 1,000 venues up and down the country took part. Tapper Funeral Service’s bereavement support group is holding its free monthly walk on Sunday. The 10-mile coastal walk starts from Studland Village at 9.30am and will head towards Old Harry Rocks. The walk is expected to take five hours with short breaks along the way. Sensible footwear is essential and walkers are advised to take light refreshments. Soldiers will march alongside veterans at the Burton Armed Forces and Veterans Day on Sunday. The event, which will welcome soldiers from the 216 Parachute Signal Squadron, will be raising money for Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion. There will be live music and entertainment with a bouncy castle to keep the little ones entertained. The traditional parade will take place from 1.45pm leaving from Burton Primary School in Campbell Road.

Go back in time at Corfe Castle and learn all about medieval falconry this weekend. Takes place between 10am and 5pm. Event is free but normal admission charges apply.

Take part in a 24-hour long Bioblitz on Brownsea Island this weekend and help count the wildlife. The outdoor event is one of 25 interactive wildlife surveys taking place across National Trust coastal sites in the UK this summer. Local residents with proof of their BH postcode are entitled to free admission to take part in the BioBlitz, however normal boat charges apply. Discover the art of Japanese tea ceremonies in Kingston Lacy’s Tea Garden on Sunday. Uncover the ceremonial processes behind preparing and presenting traditional Japanese green tea. Pack a hamper, grab a deckchair and head to Verwood Recreation Ground on Sunday where Verwood Concert Brass Town Band will be putting on a free concert. Takes place between 3pm and 5pm and is subject to the weather, check verwoodconcertbrass.co.uk

Corfe Mullen Carnival takes place on Saturday. The procession will leave from Ivor Road at 1.30pm before making its way to the recreation ground where it is due to arrive at 2.30pm with entertainment, stalls and more taking place throughout the afternoon.  

The first-ever Pudding Festival takes place at Poulner Community Hall in the grounds of Poulner Junior School on Saturday.
