WOMEN across Dorset are being urged to support the fight against cancer by signing up to this year’s Race for Life events.

Entries are now open for Cancer Research UK’s pink-themed fundraisers in Bournemouth and Poole, which raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity.

Both 5k and 10k events will be held at Bournemouth Seafront on Sunday, June 14, and a 5k event will take place at Poole Park on Sunday, June 21.

Elizabeth Frisby, Cancer Research UK’s Dorset event manager, said: “We’re urging women of all ages, shapes and sizes to take on Race for Life in their region and sign up now.

“If you’re looking for an opportunity to get active in 2015 and shake off those January blues, there’s no better time to take on Race for Life. With fire in their bellies and trainers at the ready, we know that local ladies are up for the challenge.”

Last year, 7,400 women took part in Race for Life in Bournemouth and Poole, raising a staggering £380,000 for Cancer Research UK to continue funding life-saving research.

Participants are invited to run, jog, walk or even dance around the course during the lively events.

Elizabeth said: “We’re calling on local brave ladies to show their fighting spirit once more and take on cancer at this year’s event.”

She added: “Race for Life is to celebrate those who are with us, and also remember those who are not. The atmosphere is electric, our participants are so inspiring and we’re calling on the women of Dorset to help make 2015 our best year yet.”
