ANIMATION enthusiasts will gain an insight into the industry with the return of the BFX festival being hosted at Bournemouth International Centre.

The festival will feature animation workshops, talks from industry professionals and screenings of the latest popular films. A special Disney art exhibition will also feature throughout the festival displaying art works from Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent, with a viewing of Maleficent taking place on September 24 accompanied with a talk from the animators. The Lego Movie and Frozen will be viewed throughout the weekend with workshops designed for children taking place.

The talented animators behind the Oscar-winning visual effects used in Gravity, which around 50 BU and AUB students worked on, will be speaking at the festival.

As well as Gravity talks from professionals who worked on Godzilla, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Edge of Tomorrow will also be hosting talks, showing a range of quality visual effects needed to create award winning blockbusters.

Bournemouth Council is sponsoring the event, and Councillor Lawrence Williams, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure and Culture said: “We are delighted to support the BFX Festival. It is a fantastic opportunity for people starting their career to speak to the experts and gain insight and inspiration to enter the industry.”

Other companies speaking at the event include Animal Logic, Double Negative, The Mill, MPC, The Foundry, Chaos Group, Next Limit and AMD as well as computer game developers.

The event is being organised by the International VFX Hub; a collaboration between National Centre for Computer Animation at Bournemouth University and the Faculty of Media and Performance at the Arts University Bournemouth.

Sofronis Efstathiou, senior lecturer at Bournemouth University and the BFX Festival director said: “We are delighted to be hosting the second BFX Festival this year and to celebrate the best VFX and animation in the world. There is truly something for everyone, so come and learn more about this amazing industry and the hard work that goes into creating some of your favourite movies and computer games.”
