FRIDAY night fireworks are returning with a bang to Bournemouth.

The free family event, sponsored by the Coastal Activity Park, kicks off tonight and for one-night only will see both Bournemouth and Boscombe piers simultaneously illuminated by stunning pyrotechnics at 10pm.

A firework display at Bournemouth Pier only will then take place every Friday throughout the summer.

The displays will run until August 22 and the council is boasting that there will be a plethora of entertainment and activities for visitors to enjoy.

In previous years the fireworks have seen thousands descend on the beach and surrounding clifftop in search of the best vantage points to watch as the skies are lit up.

Branded the Friday Family Fiesta, the council says it will offer families the perfect combination of entertainment for a fun-filled evening.

Starting at 6pm visitors can expect to enjoy fire performances, circus workshops and even stilt walkers as the town celebrates the summer season. A spokesman for the council said the fireworks are just the start, promising a ‘jam-packed events timetable’ throughout July and August.

He added: “After a successful first year Onstage at Pier Approach will be returning to entice the crowds with a fantastic live events programme.

“Expect to see an eclectic mix of dance, live music and movies between July 28 and August 24.”

Also starting on July 28 is the Kids’ Family Fun Festival, which will see the Lower Gardens play host to art workshops, magicians, jesters, puppet workshops, comedy and more each day until August 24.
