THE first Purbeck Literary Festival takes place from next February, it has been announced.

Romantic novelist Katie Fforde, Young Sherlock Holmes author Andrew Lane and Bournemouth-based writer Tricia Walker will be among those taking part in a wide programme of events.

Venues across the district including village halls, schools, country pubs, cafes and hotels, will support the festival, which organisers hope will become a regular date on the festival scene.

Festival organiser Emma Fernandez said: “I am lucky to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, with the most amazing literature heritage, from Thomas Hardy, Enid Blyton and TE Lawrence.

“As well as modern authors who have lived here and taken inspiration from the landscape, such as PD James and screen writer Jeremy Paul.”

A varied programme has been put together to appeal to writers and readers, including workshops on short stories, erotica, sagas and blogging.

Festival promoters insist there will be ample opportunity to meet writers from crime to comedy, poetry to the paranormal.

Ms Fernandez said: “The response has been so fantastic from authors, attractions and venues so we hope it will grow in years to come.

“Visitors can expect cosy fireside readings, as well as talks and performances.

“It also gives the community a chance to learn something new and the opportunity for libraries and schools to host author visits.”
