A Bournemouth University Graduate has been nominated for a National Film Award.
Ben Cookson graduated from Scriptwriting for Film and Television in 2006. His film Almost Married, which he wrote and directed has been nominated in the Best Comedy category.
The comedy drama stars Emily Atak (The Inbetweeners) and Philip McGinley (Game of Thrones) and follows a groom who returns from his stag do with a STD.
Due to a last minute reduction in the films budget, the full-length feature was shot in just sixteen days. Its £600,000 budget dwarfs that of its competition which includes: Cuban Fury starring Rashida Jones and British cult comedy The Inbetweeners 2.
The National Film Academy celebrates the accomplishments of both established and independent film entertainment both in the UK and overseas. This year marks their first award ceremony, which will recognise all of those that make up the the motion picture industry – from film makers and casting directors to the actors and actresses.
Both the nominations and the winners are decided by a public vote, more than 700,000 film lovers voting online before it closed yesterday. Other categories include: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Thriller, Best Breakthrough Performance and Best Newcomer. Dame Judi Dench will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The event will take place on the 31st March in London and will be broadcast on Sky 192 on the 12th April.
