The first acts have been announced for upcoming local festival, Common People.

Common People is a brand new two-day musical festival from the Bestival family. It will be held at Southampton Common on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th May 2015.

World famous DJ Fatboy Slim, has been announced as the festival’s first ever headliner. He took to YouTube to confirm that he will be performing on Saturday 23rd May.

Although the headliner for Sunday 24th May is yet to be revealed, the line-up so far includes British Electronic group Clean Bandit. Their chart topping song Rather Be was the third biggest selling tune of 2014, and their debut album New Eyes reaching the top three in UK album charts.

Other acts gracing the main stage include US hip hop trio, De La Soul and BRIT Critics Choice nominee, George the Poet.

The Big Top Stage will play host to a range of underground electronic music. Saturday will see sets from Dusky, Huxley, Dense & Pika, Leon Vynehall, Luca Pilato and Jordan McKinlay. The following day’s line-up includes: Rob da Bank, Friend Within, Toyboy & Robin and Muddywellies.

Throughout the weekend there will also be amusements such as a bigtopmania circus, trapeze lessons, craft tents, Morris dancing, hoedowns and brass bands.

They are also hosting a competition for new musicians to win a slot in the line up. Entrants must upload a track to the Common People Soundcloud page by 15th February 2015 and email localacts@commonpeople.net explaining in a maximum of 100 words why they want to play Common People. To enter, include your act name, number of members, your location and your social media links.

The favourites will then be invited to the competition finals at the Joiners in Southampton and judged by the festival’s curator Rob da Bank.  Two winners will then be chosen to play Common People in the new music tent, run in conjunction with the Joiners crew.
