On Tuesday evening the Student’s Union at Bournemouth University held their annual Activities Awards at the O2 Academy in Boscombe, a night celebrating the brilliant achievements of BU students.

The awards recognises both individual students, as well as societies, clubs and networks and was sponsored by Santander and Matchtech.

Over the course of the evening thirteen awards were handed out, with BU Boat Club crowned SUBU Club of the Year for a second time. Tom Dando was also recognised for his volunteering work, receiving the Volunteer of the Year prize.

Other winner of the night include; Club’s Club of the Year, BU Falcons. Most Improved Club of the Year, Marketing Society. Best New Club of the Year, Health and Fitness Society. Individual Outstanding Contribution to Clubs and Societies, Charlie Jones.

BU students also give up a huge amount of their time to volunteer in the local community, with the following students being recognised; Charities Volunteer of the Year, Olivia Tuckerman. Volunteering Project of the Year, Conservation Rangers. Volunteer Leader of the Year, Lisa Fischell.

Bournemouth RAG’s Laura Martin and Shannon Knight received the Fundraising Effort of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to RAG awards respectively, while Rebecca Taylor was honored with the first ever Community Impact Award.

The BU Whovian Society received the Event of the Year prize for their Bournemouth Invasion convention.

Special recognition was given to BU students Gemma Kingshott and Alys Penfold. Both have been involved with SUBU Activities since their first week of University, and they received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
