New leaders at a Bournemouth primary school are making rapid improvements according to government inspectors.

Kings Park Primary recently came bottom in the Bournemouth league tables but things are already on the up according to its latest Ofsted report.

Executive head Brian Hooper took over in September and inspectors said he and his team have brought “strong, inspirational leadership that is bringing rapid improvement.”

They went on to say: “Staff morale is restored to a high level and all are working as a team to keep pupils safe and quicken their progress.

“Pupils’ attendance has risen significantly and is now above average. The pupils’ much-improved and now good behaviour enables pupils to feel safe and express pride in their school.”

The school was given an overall grade of Requires Improvement following the two-day inspection early last month.

Ofsted said achievement is not good enough, basic numeracy and literacy skills are not developed well and teaching needs to get better.

The school, in Ashley Road, Boscombe, has 520 pupils between the ages of four and 11 and pupils have moved into new, state-of-the-art buildings. The proportion of pupils from minority ethnic groups, disabled pupils and those with special educational needs is well above average.

It has applied to join the Ambitions Academy Trust, which includes Queens Park Academy, the Tregonwell Academy and Longspee Academy.
