PRIMARY school children are on the launch pad to an amazing scientific discovery.

The youngsters at Avonwood Primary in Bournemouth are members of the academy’s first ever science club, benefitting from expert teaching from fellow Avonbourne Trust academy, Avonbourne College.

Avonbourne’s head of science, Tim Clench, is inspiring the little ones with his science based activities and the youngsters are ably assisted by volunteer helpers from Avonbourne Sixth Form.

Head teacher, Chris Jackson, said: "Our Avonwood junior scientists absolutely love their new after school club.

"Not only are they very lucky to have their own purpose-built science lab, but also the expert teaching of science specialists from the Trust’s secondary academies.

"This club is not only providing a great introduction to science but also showing how much fun learning can be."

Each week the junior scientists learn about a different topic related to the National Curriculum in an exciting and engaging way.

During one session the lucky youngsters got to fire their own rocket into orbit via a hydraulic pump.
