DREAMS will come true for pupils of a popular primary school as they celebrate a hugely successful term.

Youngsters at Hordle Primary School were asked to plan a perfect day to celebrate the school’s recent rating of Outstanding from Ofsted as well as a host of other achievements.

Among the things chosen for the whole school were balloons, face painting and ice creams with younger pupils also asking to take part in cookery, beat the goalie, bubble park, zip wire and space hoppers.

Youngsters in Key Stage 2 selected activities including remote control cars, skate park, seed planting and a vote revealed fish and chips and pizza to be the top choice for lunch.

The activities were all due to take place today (Thurs) with a community picnic planned for tomorrow. Members of the local community will join pupils and their parents for a picnic lunch, which will include a huge cake to celebrate.

The school, which has 350 pupils between the ages of four and 11, is based in Hordle village and the Dream Day was funded by a member of the school community.

Hordle Primary was the first primary school in Hampshire to attain the Outstanding grade under tough new Ofsted rules.

The school has also been awarded other accolades including Winner of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Awards 2015, Winners of the Gold SportsMark 2015, twice County Champions in Netball and an Outstanding Church School Inspection in November 2015.

Ofsted inspectors noted the “inspirational” leadership of the school, the team spirit and excellent subject knowledge of the staff and the “exemplary” behaviour of the pupils, as well as the progress they make in their learning, regardless of their background.

They also praised the school’s strong links with the community, exemplified by the “Grandhordles” scheme which encourages senior members of the community to come into school and help the children with reading, art and other activities.
