YOUNG singers from Bournemouth became part of the biggest school choir in the world when they travelled to London for the 20th annual Young Voices event.

Talbot Heath’s junior choir were among 7,440 children who sang together at the O2 Arena after months of practice in their own schools.

Participants spent a term learning a variety of songs including Chattanooga Choo Choo, Video Killed the Radio Star, Blame it on Me, Somebody to Love and Life on Mars.

They also prepared a set of songs by 80s favourites Madness and even learned dance moves to Uptown Funk.

School spokeswoman Claire Boyington said it was the first time Talbot Heath have taken part in the event and added: “It was brilliant - the girls were once again a credit to the school.

“It was a very long but very exciting day and one the girls will never forget.”

Students, staff and parents travelled to the London venue by coach and enjoyed a picnic lunch before taking part in rehearsals.

Youngsters joined pupils from schools across the UK and were thrilled when the music began.

They met internationally-acclaimed conductor David Lawrence, the professional musicians and the choreographer who featured in their practice DVD before the singing began.

And Claire said one of the highlights of the day for the children was watching the staff and parents taking part in the dance section, which was “indeed a sight to behold.”

Laura Wright, who is the official anthem singer for the England Rugby team, led two of the songs and the World Beatbox champions ‘Beatbox Collective’ also entertained the audience and choirs.

A spokesman for Young Voices said: “Nothing can prepare you for the sound of thousands of children singing in harmony.

“Young Voices combines the power of singing together as one, with accompaniment from a wide range of musicians and artists, to create an amazing performance.”
