THOUSANDS of children are being taught in schools that need to be improved, according to a report.

The Ofsted annual report reveals almost a quarter of primary pupils in the Dorset County Council area are in schools rated as “inadequate” or “requires improvement.”

Only 68 per cent of secondary pupils in Poole are in good or outstanding schools compared to 100 per cent in Bournemouth.

Ofsted, the government inspection body, carries out visits to schools and rates them in four categories - Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement or Inadequate.

The annual report gives percentages of pupils in Good or Outstanding schools with last year’s figures in brackets.
