APPRENTICE star Jenny Garbis was among the thousands of students celebrating their graduation at Bournemouth University this week.

Jenny graduated with a first class degree in Business Studies on Thursday despite completing a number of final year assignments and examinations early due to the demands of The Apprentice selection process.

Unfortunately the 23-year-old was fired from this year's show in the third week, but that didn’t stop her celebrating with her friends and family on Thursday.

Business Studies lecturer Carly Lamont said: “Jenny joined BU in 2012 and was a fantastic student with unbelievable levels of enthusiasm and commitment to her studies as well as her longer term career aspirations.

“She is a delightful young lady who knows her own mind and is driven to succeed in everything she does.”

Then during yesterday’s festivities well-known war reporter Kate Adie was honoured with a Doctor of Letters for her inspirational career in the media.

At the ceremony Mrs Adie said: “Lots of students are graduating today and who knows what will be in their future because the world changes and it is changing at the moment quite rapidly.

“They will have to report on it, reflect it, make films and document it and take pictures, all the things that belong to the world of journalism.

“They may even be finding out during their careers new methods and ways of reporting. It will be really exciting for them.”

Former Lib Dem MP Dame Annette Brooke, who served her constituency of Mid Dorset and North Poole for 14 years, was also made a Doctor of Education.

Honorary degrees were also given to Olympic athlete Liz Yelling, travel industry entrepreneur Peter Long, retail entrepreneur Andrew Thomson, former Principal of Bournemouth and Poole College Lawrence Vincent and former Bournemouth University Board member Roy Spragg.

During the four days of graduation ceremonies held this week around 4,000 students received their diploma, bachelor, masters or doctorate awards.

Professor John Vinney, vice-chancellor of Bournemouth University, said: "Our graduation week ceremonies at the Bournemouth International Centre are one of the highlights of the academic year and I have been absolutely honoured to personally shake the hands of every graduate this week, as they have crossed the stage and received their awards.

“This year we had students from 109 countries graduating, showing that BU really does have a global reach, and we wish them all well for the future, wherever that takes them locally, nationally and internationally."
