DORSET'S agencies, universities, colleges, businesses and speakers will come together on October 6 to host a free one day conference to celebrate all things digital.

Entitled Digital Wave, it will be held at the Bournemouth International Centre and is open to around 1,000 young people aged 14-19 years-old. The event aims to raise awareness of digital careers amongst young people.

Chris Shephard, Head of Economic Development and Sustainability at Bournemouth council said: "It’s great to see that Digital Day is back again this year in Bournemouth, under its new name of Digital Wave.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn about the career opportunities open to them in Bournemouth’s fast growing, exciting and varied creative and digital economy."

Dorset and neighbouring schools are being invited to bring groups of students, and the event is also open to individuals outside the education system who are looking for ways to get into the creative industries.

The day will feature a host of acclaimed speakers from across the industry. Among those sharing their expertise will be Adam Goswell and Alice Dorrington who will be giving a talk around the journey Lush have undertaken into the digital landscape as well as the working culture Lush have created.

Mike Hawkyard from Amuzo games, is an expert on games, design, gamification and digital marketing and will be showing the audience some of the games Amuzo have recently worked on. Peter Truckel from Bournemouth University and co-creator of BFX - Bournemouth’s internationally recognised VFX and animation festival will also be speaking at Digital Wave.

Other speakers include, Jim Cregan from Jimmy’s Iced Coffee, Arabella Lewis-Smith from Salad, a graphic design and build agency, Joshua Carr from IBM, and Redweb’s Head of Innovation, David Burton.

Local colleges, businesses and agencies are also exhibiting, providing young people with the opportunity to speak face-to-face with industry professionals and academics about what it’s like to work in the industry and see what courses are available to them.
