A DANCE and drama production described as slick and professional has seen a Bournemouth school judged the premier performers of the south – for the second year running.

Students from the Oak Academy - LeAF Campus swept the board at the Southern Premier League final of Rock Challenge – the competition that pits only the top performing schools in the south against each other.

Their performance, called Perfectly Mis-placed, won the overall first prize and a further 15 separate categories, including performance skill, stage crew, spirit of Rock Challenge and choreography.

More than 100 students created, performed and staged Perfectly Mis-placed, a story of how love overcomes prejudice.

Executive principal, Gill Blanshard, said: "Everyone involved in the production, from the stage crew to the makeup artists to the performers, have put their heart and souls into this and we are so proud of them all."

Geoff Lake, the school’s Rock Challenge choreographer and lead teacher, added: "Our students have worked tirelessly to create, develop and perform our 2015 entry.

“I would like to thank our supporters, made up from parents and alumni students who have also contributed to this year’s entry, because without them, this success would not be possible."

Thousands of young people from across the UK take part in Rock Challenge every year.

The competition is a series of performing arts events which encourages young people to choose themes to explore that demonstrate their dreams, aspirations or concerns.

Their acts in all rounds are judged by a panel of specialists from the performing arts industry.

The team, which is made up of students from both the Oak Academy and LeAF Studio, will now go on to compete in the national final, which is only held every three years, at the Milton Keynes theatre on July 6.
