SPORTS facilities will be transformed at a Bournemouth secondary school thanks to donations of £60,000.

The Talbot Village Trust has presented The Bourne Academy with £50,000 towards renovation of its Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).

The generous donation was followed by a further £10,000 from the Garfield Weston Foundation.

Now the Hadow Road school has launched an appeal in a bid to raise the remaining £25,000 needed for the project.

The Academy is planning to install astroturf and floodlighting for students and also for use by the wider community.

"The renovated facilities would improve the quality of sport offered to all the students, as they would be able to play no matter the weather and sessions would not be cancelled" said a spokesman for The Bourne Academy.

"With extra hours of light after school hours, further after-school clubs would be established. The superior facilities would be let out to local community groups for sports and activities, which would provide additional revenue for the Academy to be spent directly on the students and enhanced equipment."

The Talbot Village Trust is a registered charity which supports causes in Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Isle of Purbeck and East Dorset. During the past 15 years, more than £12 million has been distributed to help hundreds of projects of all shapes and sizes in the local community.

In addition, substantial funding has been provided for capital projects at Bournemouth University, The Arts University Bournemouth, the Hanover Housing Association and Ability Housing Association amounting to more than £15 million.

The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family-founded, grant making trust which has been supporting charities across the UK for 50 years and to date has donated more than £785 million.

It supports a range of organisations that share a commitment to making a positive impact to the lives of the communities in which they work and are driven by a desire to achieve excellence.
