DISNEY'S newly-released Lion King Junior will be performed by pupils from St Thomas Garnet's School in Bournemouth.

They will be the first in the area to embark on the special musical play, with music and lyrics by Elton John, Tim Rice and others.

Producer of the show is Thomas Schumacher who said: "Just as The Lion King film and stage production have played all over the world, the school production will reach out to the community with a message of hope, renewal, second chances, love reunited, responsibilities fulfilled, and above all, loyalty."

And head teacher Sarah Breeze added: "Our strength in music and drama builds the children’s confidence and fires their imagination. The Lion King Junior production will be a unique and memorable Arts Week experience.

"The close-knit community of St. Thomas Garnet’s School gives each pupil ample opportunity to explore their potential with smaller class-sizes enabling staff to give children the attention needed to stretch their minds and support learning. Our Arts Week, concluding in a musical production, is a major annual highlight.”

The production is being directed by Big Little Theatre School Principal, Michelle Guy, who has long been associated with the school.

“Performing Arts is empowering for youngsters, enabling them to express themselves in a safe and vibrant environment. It’s always a privilege to witness the shyest of children break through inhibitions and enjoy the process” she said.

The show will be performed on Friday June 5.
