RINGWOOD School’s annual production has once again enjoyed sell-out performances.

In all, six shows were performed of this year’s extravaganza, Singin’ in the Rain.

Auditions started back in September, with the idea of tailoring the production around the talent in the school’s sixth form.

Teachers found that they were astonished by what emerged over the three days of auditions and, six months later, they played to more than 1,500 people, including a Gala Matinee show.

Letters of praise came flooding in and the school has thanked staff, parents, friends, the community and the students for their support.

Producer and musical director, Ian Hawkins, said: “To produce a show of this quality and scale is such an achievement; it really is a collaborative process, with all year groups and subjects rallying to get involved. It may take a lot of time and energy but it is always worth it, and it is such amazing fun.”

Director and subject leader for drama, Elise de Lancy Green, said: “As rehearsals have progressed I have been amazed by the talent of the students, who have approached their roles with maturity beyond their years.

Ringwood School runs a BTEC National Diploma course in Production Arts, which enables students with a passion for working backstage to use the skills they learn on the course to help make the technical aspects of the show as good as they can be.

“We had a wonderful time working with a very talented cast, an enthusiastic student technical team and colleagues – all of whom were willing to try practically anything to make the show work. We laughed a lot and it rained on the stage!

“As ever, the students dazzled us with their creativity, energy and talent – on stage, in the orchestra, backstage.”
