AN expanding Bournemouth primary school has been rated as “Good” following a visit from government inspectors.

Headteacher Richard Gower, staff and pupils are celebrating after boosting their Ofsted rating.

The Hadow Road school, which currently has 512 pupils, was formerly rated as “Requires Improvement” but a team of inspectors who visited over two days in December praised “rapid progress” and clear leadership.

They said: “The headteacher, other leaders, governors and staff ensure that teaching is good and pupils achieve well. Leaders and staff have created a positive and welcoming atmosphere where pupils learn and flourish.”

They had high praise for behaviour, safety procedures and teaching and also said: “Children in the Nursery and Reception classes have a good start to school – they make good progress and achieve well.”

And inspectors gave advice as to how the school can become Outstanding, recommending that teachers should challenge the most able students more and give children more opportunities to explore in the Reception outside areas.

Kingsleigh has recently opened stunning new buildings following a multi-million pound transform-ation. Achievement at the end of Year 6 is at its highest level for five years, but remains below the national average.

Headteacher Richard Gower said: “We are absolutely delighted. We have always known that Kingsleigh is a very good school and Ofsted agreed with us.

“It has always been recognised by our pupils and parents who told the inspectors just what a fabulous school this is.”

He urged anyone who wants more information or wishes to look around the school to call 01202 528893.
