FORGET shaving off your hair or bathing in a tub of baked beans, when it comes to raising cash, the pupils at a Bournemouth primary school have it down to a fine art.
For when pupils at St Walburga’s discovered that their cycling proficiency course would cost more than £1,000, they decided to raise the cash themselves.
The result is The Gallery, a winter wonderland-themed pop-up art exhibition featuring work by the students, as well as art lessons, a children’s play area, a Santa’s grotto and music and food by Waitrose.
Eleven-year-old pupil Matthew Cole explained: “We wanted to raise money and do something special for our last year at St Walburga’s.
“We were talking about how we do all this great art in school but it never gets seen and I mentioned an art gallery.
“To start with we assumed it would just be some stuff on the walls in our classrooms, but now it’s become this really big thing. Some AFC Bournemouth players are coming and we are selling lots of tickets,” he added.
There are also some raffle prizes to be won, including AFC Bournemouth match tickets, restaurant and golfing vouchers.
The event, which has been organised and arranged by year six pupils, is on for one night.
Matthew adds: “Our art is for sale or up for auction and we have other fun things to sell.”
The Gallery will pop-up at St Walburga’s school, Malvern Road, Moordown today from 6.30pm to 8pm.
