TWO girls’ grammars in Poole and Bournemouth have been named in the top 10 performing secondary schools in the south west.

The Sunday Times Parent Power list saw Bournemouth School for Girls achieve seventh place in the region, after 71.2 per cent of its A-level students scored A* to Bs in their exams and 65.3 per cent gained A*s and As in their GCSEs.

The performance meant BSG leapfrogged Parkstone Grammar School, which is named tenth in the list with 69.7 per cent of its intake achieving A*s to Bs in their A-levels and 64.9 per cent of GCSE pupils returning A* and A grades.

Canford School in Wimborne was eighth in the list of top independent secondary schools in the south west – 83 per cent of its A-level students managing A*s to Bs and 74.3 per cent getting the top GCSE awards.

Nationally, BSG was ranked 88th and PGS 94th amongst state schools respectively. Canford was ranked 101st in a list of independent schools. 

Park School in Bournemouth ranked second in a list of high performing independent prep schools in the region, climbing 25 places from last year to 40th in the national league table.
