THE Bourne Academy has received a glowing report following a two-day visit from government inspection body Ofsted.

Achievement, teaching quality, behaviour and leadership at the Hadow Road Academy were all praised, to the delight of staff and students alike.

The Academy caters for 745 11-18-year-olds and its sixth-form provision was also commended by inspectors who said in their report: “Students are engaged in a harmonious and hard-working sixth form.”

The school received an overall rating of “Good” compared with “Requires Improvement” after its last inspection in 2012.

Lead Inspector Haydn Evans said: “Students make excellent progress over time in English.

“Progress is improving across a broad range of other subjects, including mathematics and sci-ence, so that their overall achievement is good.

“Achievement gaps between different groups of students are narrowing quickly. “Students’ social, moral, spiritual and cultural develop-ment is strong.”

The report also said behaviour is good in and out of lessons, students and staff are proud of the Academy and teaching is consistently good.

In order to become an outstanding school, inspectors recommended the Academy makes improvements to marking and said some teachers do not have high enough expectations of their pupils.

Principal Jackie Steel said: “We are particularly pleased that the Ofsted inspectors saw for themselves what we have been trying to achieve at the Academy.

“In their report they picked up on our central themes.”

She highlighted areas praised by inspectors including strong safeguarding arrangements, high rates of attendance, good advice and guidance and the very high expectations of teaching and achievement.
