TWO teams from Bournemouth’s Bishop of Winchester Academy are being mentored as part of the Shore Ideas entrepreneurial business competition as they plan events to raise money for charities.

With the support of Edward Foster, head of Year 9, the teams are two of only 11 out of 27 teams whose fundraising ideas were approved by a Lions’ Den panel.

Each team is given a fund of £1,000 to help them create an initiative for a charity of their choice.

One of the teams is planning a ‘Food and Funk’ event to take place at Easter, which will involve foods from around the world and music. The team aims to raise money for the Centre for Wessex Young Musicians and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The second team is planning an Easter Family Fun event involving fete stalls, family games, zorbing balls and performances from dance and drama students. They will raise cash for James Burns House.

Shore Ideas have provided each team with mentors from the business community to help raise as much money as possible.

The BOWA teams are supported by David Frankel of the aleeVee8 Foundation and Medi Vahdati, owner of Tiien Thai Restaurants and Indian Ocean.

Dan Lodge, project development manager for Shore Ideas said: “It is very exciting to see young people come up with some very dynamic and creative ideas to raise money for local good causes.

“Shore Ideas provides a platform for young people aged 13 to 21 to learn important business skills from local successful entrepreneurs with the aim of working together to achieve some fantastic results”.
