Will they save their bacon?

I'M biting my nails in anticipation.

While the glitterati will be gathering in Hollywood on Sunday to see who wins an Oscar, back home today's the big day when we find out if Bournemouth council should be awarded a "Trough-scar" for the Greediest Performance of the Year.

Yes, today's the day when Bournemouth's full council sits to decide whether the councillors should say "Oink" to a recommendation to increase their own allowances by between 17 and 36 per cent. (Stop snorting at the back.) Or not.

The rises have been put forward by an independent three-man panel - made up of two businessmen and the university vice chancellor - who, no doubt, made an intelligent recommendation that I respect.

But to the average Joe it is excessive, particularly at a time when the same councillors are expected to vote for a 4.9 per cent rise in council tax.

I cannot help thinking that I could put forward an alternative three-person independent panel - made up of a pensioner worried by that council tax increase, a Bournemouth council employee whose pay increase for each of the next three years is set to be two per cent and a police officer whose 2.5 per cent offer has not been backdated. They might make a more modest recommendation. One closer to inflation.

The council's cabinet last week agreed to support the generous recommendation of more cash for themselves... without so much as a grunt of debate. Will they show such brawn today or change their minds over voting themselves 17 to 36 per cent increases in their allowances? And will other councillors vote with them?

If they vote "yes", will their "Trough-scar" acceptance speeches make us cry?

And will the rest of us be prepared to make any allowances for them?

Your 3 person panel would have been ideal, no money grabbers, just genuine people who are feeling the pinch,The issue is a disgrace to the town, and should not be allowed to rest.

I quite agree you talk total rubbish, and you are probably well qualified to, by the way you reply to anyones comments, how would you know if anyone would want paying you dont,Why dont you complain to the Echo that ED is talking total rubbish, instead of having a go at someones views.

Sorry don't understand what you are trying to say.I am just saying why would a 3 person panel on those lines be any better. They would be biased the other way. Nothing more complicated than that.Surely you agree with me. What's the Echo got to do with it.Suely I can say that I think you are wrong or do you want to deny me that right.

I have more respect for pigs than this arrogant hard faced scum!

Now they have the rise they can continue this rapid downward trend to eventually be the worst performing council in England.

Then I suppose another rise will be in order.

Time for a revolution.

It takes a scum to recognise another one one.Why don't you make a contructive comment or is that more than your capability.
