SO CUTE: The Dudsbury Ducklings the 12 young mallards recently hatched at Ferndown's Dudsbury Golf Club
A FERNDOWN golf course has witnessed a dozen birdies in one day.
Twelve mallard chicks have become the latest members of Dudsbury Golf Club.
The chicks were hatched in a nest concealed in a raised flowerbed under an office window in the clubhouse courtyard.
Staff were first alerted to its presence by the chicks' protective father, nicknamed Mr Mallard, who would quack defiantly at visitors passing his young family.
Closer inspection revealed Mrs Mallard, cleverly camouflaged among the surrounding earth and shrubbery.
Rare trips by the expectant mother away from her nest allowed Dudsbury staff to count 12 eggs, all of which hatched on the same morning.
A brief tutorial given by Mrs Mallard to her young brood was followed by a swift march across the club's car park and fairways.
Some of the finest strokes seen that day took place in the club's lake as the fledglings followed their mother into a nearby
lake.
