DORSET Police are warning parents and children to be vigilant after a man tried to persuade a child to get into his car.

The incident happened at a disused play park in Sydenham Road in the Herston area of Swanage on Monday morning around 8.30am.

The girl described the man as being in his 30s, with dark hair and wearing a high-visibility jacket.

The man got out of a dark green vehicle, possibly a pick-up truck (described as a large car with a long boot and two sets of seats at the front) pulled over across the entrance to the park, leant on the fence and beckoned to the child saying “Do you want to get in the car?”

He got back in the car when she said no and ran further into the park away from him.

She said thaty he left the car door open briefly.

The girl hid in the park near Holmes Road until he drove away.

She also reported that there were two other men in the car who he spoke to when he got back in.
