IS this the shortest set of double yellow lines in Dorset?

This scene in Ulwell Road, Swanage, was captured by local resident Robin Boultwood earlier this week.

The area, no more than a metre in length, has recently been worked on by a utility company.

Robin, 73, said: "I went past there the other day and thought, 'Crikey, I've got to get a picture of that.'"

The freshly painted parking restriction joins onto existing double yellow lines which have either faded or cracked.

Robin said: "These companies are obligated to paint the lines. It looks as though they're the only lines there."

Responsibility for the roads falls under the remit of Dorset Highways.

Robin, who's lived in Swanage for nine years, said: "I think there's a shortage of money and [Dorset County Council] is trying to get their priorities right.

"They're leaving out things like painting the lines."

A spokesman for the county council said: "The lines were repainted by a utility company following their work on a small section of road. This is something they are obliged to do by law.

"We appreciate this looks a bit odd. However, with a reducing roads budget, repainting these markings is less of a priority than essential road repairs."
