HARMAN’S Cross residents are celebrating completion of their new community hall after six years of fundraising.
It has a kitchen, servery, meeting room, computers and audio-visual equipment as well as a children’s play area.
David Keynes, from building contractors Stepnells, handed over the keys to resident Brian Engel. A grand opening has been arranged for August 21.
“Without doubt our community – and many supporters outside the village – have helped us make it happen and we are very grateful,” said booking secretary David Hollister.
The old hall – an Army hut – was demolished in February.
A £250,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund made up the bulk of the £700,000 cost of the scheme. Grants rolled in too from Defra, Viridor, the Co-operative and the county, district and parish councils. Residents also raised thousands through a string of fundraising events over the years.
