THREE caravans were gutted by fire after a gas cylinder exploded at a Dorset holiday park.

Emergency services were called to Sandford Caravan Park near Wareham just before midday on Thursday.

They found three touring caravans alight and four fire crews from Poole, Wareham and Hamworthy attended to tackle the blaze. Police were also in attendance.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the caravans belonged to holiday-makers, some of whom were at the park at the time of the incident.

There were no people in the affected caravans at the time of the explosion and no one was hurt.

Crews are still at the scene.
