A MUSIC festival is being held in memory of teenager Gaia Pope.

Gaia, from Langton Matravers, was reported missing by a family member last November.

Her body was later discovered in undergrowth on a cliff top following a major search.

Now, DJs The Drum & Bass Warriors will host a special event at The Old Fire Station in Bournemouth on Saturday, May 19.

During the day, the venue will host a family-orientated event which will include market stalls, a raffle/auction of drum and bass merchandise, penny jar donations, face painting and fire dancers.

Later the event will see a special over 18s session headlined by drum and bass DJs Mollie Collins and Hannibal between 10pm and 4am.

In a statement, the Old Fire Station and DNB Warriors said: "With a festival feel and working closely with Gaia's Family, the DnB Warriors are proud to host this event. Not just to raise funds but also awareness, in memory of a beautiful soul.

"All proceeds will be donated equally to the charities chosen by Gaia's family."

In a statement, Gaia's cousin Marienna Pope-Weidemann, added: "People who were strangers to us before are still showing such love and support.

"It's incredible to me how even now, amidst all the grief and loss, beautiful things keep springing up."

All acts will be performing free of charge with proceeds equally donated to four charities chosen by Gaia's family which include Rape Crisis who provide specialist services for women and girls who suffered from sexual abuse, the Epilepsy Society and Sisters Uncut which seek to oppose government cuts to domestic violence services.

The group will also donate funds to Missing People, a charity which searches for missing people on behalf of friends and family and provides them with specialised support.

The announcement comes after the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) began an inquiry into Dorset Police's handling of the case this week.

An inquest which has recently been opened into Gaia's death heard that she died of hypothermia and that there were no suspicious circumstances or signs of third party involvement.

Entry to the family day event is free while tickets to the evenings festivities can be purchased at eventbrite.co.uk/e/gaia-pope-fundraiser-tickets-43616268433.
