A WOMAN from Swanage died while taking part in a guided tour in India in 2016, an inquest has heard.

Brenda Gumbley, 79, of Benlease Way, was found unresponsive on a ledge while in Jaipur on February 9, 2016.

The retired teacher, who was born in Solihull, was taken to Jaipur District Hospital where she died.

Speaking at the opening of the Bournemouth inquest into her death, coroner’s officer Ken McEwan said that a post-mortem carried out shortly after her death had given no cause of death.

He said: “Police in India have been involved but there is no evidence to suggest any foul play or third party involvement.”

Assistant coroner Brendan Allen adjourned the inquest until June 6 so that a pre-inquest review could be carried out.

He requested that statements be provided by her family, her GP and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
