THE probe into the fatal weekend accident on the A35 that claimed the life of one woman and left five other people with serious injuries continued yesterday.

Two vehicles were involved in the collision, which happened two miles from Bere Regis towards Poole, around 8.40am on Sunday morning.

A 35-year-old woman from Bournemouth, who was driving an Astra car, died at the scene.

Her family has been informed and the coroner notified.

Meanwhile, five people travelling in the other vehicle involved in the collision - a Peugeot people carrier - were taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 55-year-old man from Poole, was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

The A35 remained closed, between Morden Park Corner and Woodbury Cross, for most of Sunday, while emergency services initially dealt with the incident before carrying out a subsequent detailed investigation.

Police Sergeant Craig Tatton, of Dorset Police traffic unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the manner of driving of either vehicle immediately prior to the incident to please contact Dorset Police.”
